The debate over artificial grass vs.  regular growing grass in Las Vegas really doesn’t have much of a late to stand on when it comes to trying to defend a real grass lawn.  Grass lawns may be a thing of pride on the east coast or in other areas where growing grass is easy to do the fact that there is a mild climate with ample rain.  Las Vegas is a desert, and grass does not have the ability to grow here naturally due to the simple fact that it is too hot and there is not enough rain to keep the plants alive.  Las Vegas was built on the idea that with enough money you can reclaim any area and remake it into whenever you want it to be, and this original premise that started with the casinos has taken hold of the residential neighborhoods as well.  In the past, nobody would’ve thought about trying to waste their time growing grass in the Las Vegas Desert, but the arrogance of the ability to create any type of region that you want combined with enough money to do it has created a different kind of landscape.  What we have found over the course of the last 30 years is that more and more people who have relocated to Las Vegas have attempted to make it into a different type of region by installing artificial watering supplies into their lawns which would feed water to plants that naturally would not receive it.  Because water was cheap, there was no thought given to the damage that creating a grass lawn for yourself could bring to the community as a whole.  A grass lawn will need upwards of 50 gallons of water per square foot per year in order to stay alive in Las Vegas.  When the water in Lake Mead is many people relying on it as their only water source, then wasting water was not a big deal.  As our population grew and drought conditions intensified, we found that wasting even 1 gallon of water was bad for our community, as the most needy people rely solely on that water to survive.  Every gallon that you waste watering plants that are purely decorative in Las Vegas is a gallon it could have gone towards the drinking supply which is short.

One of the best things that you can do in Las Vegas to help the community as well as helping yourself is to install artificial grass where your real grass once was.  It is so necessary for this to happen that the water authority has actually issued a $3.00 rebate per square foot of real grass that you remove and replace with artificial grass.  You will reduce the amount of expense that you see every month as the water bill due to the fact that artificial grass does not need water.  You will also reduce the amount of maintenance necessary because it is not a living plant.  When you want to do good for yourself and for others in Las Vegas, remove your real grass and install artificial grass.
