Artificial Turf In The Summertime

Summer is quickly going to be here in Las Vegas, and with the advent of nicer weather you are probably going to be spending a decent amount of time outside for the next few months. Part of the Las Vegas lifestyle is to be outdoors hiking and exploring our nearby state and national parks, as well as cookouts in geenspaces, trips to the dog park and cycling. If you don’t do any of those things, perhaps you are a golfer or a runner, and no doubt you are looking forward to the warmer weather to get out of the house and get moving. Well aside from the obvious trips to areas that do not have a roof over them, there are lots of ways to spend time outdoors within your own areas as well, all you really need is a nice yard to do it in. If you understand that we live in a desert, you are not going to do something foolish like putting in real grass or sod, so you probably think that the only other thing you can do is to put down crushed rock or concrete, or maybe some pavers. We are here to tell you that there is another option that will create a wonderful space where you can go barefoot without pain, and which will provide a perfect play space for children and pets alike. We are talking about artificial turf.

Artificial grass is a synthetic product that mimics the look and feel of real grass. It is created by extruding colored plastic through metal plates, forming the plastic into the shape of blades of grass. The shapes, colors and lengths of the “grass blades” can vary depending on the type of grass the manufacturer is attempting to copy. These blades of plastic grass are then adhered to a backing that is made of water permeable materials, and it is rolled the way carpet is. Upon the choice of grass type that the customer picks, the installation process begins. The area is cleared of all living plants and leveled, then a crushed material is spread evenly which will provide a cushion under the artificial turf. This will mimic the sponginess of grass, and also provide an additional element for the water to pass through so as not to pool. The filler material is compacted, then the artificial turf is spread across the top and staked securely to the ground. The seams are joined together and the edges are finished off and staked securely, after which a sand-like material is spread and raked through the grass blades to get them to stand more appropriately, as well as eliminating the patterns that are not natural. Sometimes, an added crystal material is raked in which will prevent pet odors if pets urinate on it.

Artificial turf is a perfect choice for Las Vegas homes that want to create a pleasant space to be outside, as well as for pets and children to walk and crawl on. It needs nearly no maintenance, so contact us today.
