The Benefits Of Synthetic Turf

Las Vegas is a hot climate, which makes it quite difficult to grow landscape plants of any kind.  The desert itself is far too hot and dry for the traditional green plants that you see elsewhere, and as a result “desert landscaping” is one of the most popular ways to turn your outdoor space into a beautiful and peaceful environment.  Desert landscaping itself is a concept, the using of plants and elements that are natural to the environment a sa man made landscape.  In the desert, this means using cactus or plants that need almost no water, as well as rocks and sand.  There is a growing trend to combine desert landscaping aspects with synthetic plants in order to create a landscape that looks more like a traditional yard than the use of a full desert landscape.  This way, you get the benefits of the look and feel of a traditional lawn without the care and maintenance that goes into is, as well as the constant watering that is necessary to keep it alive in the Las Vegas heat.

Synthetic turf is a plastic product designed to look and feel almost identical to traditional living grass.  In the desert, a single square foot of living grass will consume up to 55 gallons of water every lear just to stay alive.  This number gets even higher during times of extreme heat, where extra watering is necessary just to keep it alive let alone green.  The difficulties that are posed by trying to grow grass in the desert are too much for many people, who choose instead to use a fake grass as a ground covering.  The synthetic products provide all of the benefits of a soft and lush grass carpet beneath your feet while not needing the continual watering and care.  This is a good thing over the past few years as an ongoing drought has made it legally impossible to keep your grass lush.  Restrictions on water use will not provide the necessary amounts of water, and as a result you will end up with grass that is stressed if not dead.  Artificial turf needs no water, and therefore is a far better choice.  In addition to this benefit, the local water authorities are attempting to encourage people to switch over to water smart ground coverings by offering incentives in the form of rebates to cover the installation.  Currently, the water authority in Las Vegas is offering a 2 dollar rebate for every square foot of grass that is removed and replaced with a no water covering like synthetic turf.  There is no telling when these programs will end, so it is best to take advantage now.

The benefits of synthetic grass as a covering far outweigh the negative aspects.  Reports of the artificial grass being hotter than real grass are usually on days when it is too hot to stay outdoors very long anyway, so rarely are you going to have this be an issue.  The synthetic grass never discolors and doesn’t grow and need care.  It needs no water to look great.  Make the switch to synthetic grass today.
