While there are many who believe that a green grass lawn is a status symbol that shows how well your home has been taken care of, in the desert communities like Las Vegas we realize that grass is actually something that can be viewed quite negatively.  It is very much like a nice kitchen or living room which was designed and built it in the seventies.  While it may have been considered luxurious at one point, at the current time it is considered dated and no longer a luxury.  This is primarily because people’s attitudes have changed in the Las Vegas community, and citizens no longer view a green grass lawn as being something that is desired.  The previous attitude towards the luxury of a grass lawn was built by people from the east coast who grew up looking at grass as something equaled to wealth.  They brought this desire to show their opulence on their front yard to Las Vegas as it was settled earlier in the century.  The casinos reinforced this attitude with displays that would show that as long as you have enough money you could create anything you wanted, even changing the natural landscape of an area into being anything that you want it to be.  The people who made money in Las Vegas brought bad idea into their homes, installing grass where there was no ability for grass to grow naturally.  While this may have had no major impact back then, the population has now grown to a point where the water supply is being taxed by all of the people who live here.  When you add in a potential drought situation, suddenly you have water shortages.  This makes the opulence of a green grass lawn look like you are simply wasting our precious resources instead of showing how well kept your home it is.

The new attitude in Las Vegas is that fake grass is a far better idea than real grass.  For those who are looking for a soft and stable ground covering for their yard which will also improve the look of their home, while also maintaining a good standing in the community as far as being in touch with our unique needs for water, fake grass solves all of the problems.  In addition, fake grass does not need any care and maintenance which plays directly into the shift in attitude of today’s younger homebuyers who are not as interested in homes that require upkeep and maintenance as those have the ability to be enjoyed without continual upkeep.  Today’s younger homeowner does not want to spend their weekends mowing the lawn, and instead would rather spend their weekends enjoying it.  This is why fake grass has become so popular in Las Vegas, where it solves not only be issue of catering towards the attitudes of a younger demographic but also shows the interest in maintaining our community in a responsible way.  Have you shifted your grass lawn over to fake grass yet?
