The Installation Of Artificial Grass

Las Vegas is a hot climate, and for the majority of the year the temperatures are far hotter than nearly everywhere else in the country.  It is not uncommon in the summertime to have extended stretches of time with temperatures staying consistently over 110 degrees during the daytime, and dropping to only the ninety’s at night.  Couple this fact with the limited amounts of rainfall that happen, and you have an area that is constantly in a state of drought.  Even though we have made this area our home, it is still a desert no matter how much we build here.  In order to transform the landscape into anything except a desert, we need to bring in plants that are not natural to the area, and supply them with a constant source of water.  While this might not be a big deal, it is a problem when there are time frames where we get even less rainfall than expected, and the levels of water in our reserves drops to dangerous points.  During these times it does not matter if you can afford to water your landscaping, you simply are not allowed to do it.  It does not matter how much money you have spent to create a lush and green lawn, you are not legally allowed to supply it with enough water to keep it green.  This is why so many people in Las Vegas are taking out their grass and replacing it with synthetic turf.

Artificial turf is a plastic product that comes in large rolls, looking a lot like a carpet made of thick green grass.  In order to install it properly, certain steps need to be taken.  This is going to include preparing the area by removing all existing plants and grass so as to assure that nothing will grow up through the installed turf and ruin it.  The ground is flattened and shaped, then a weed barrier is installed which will assure that no weeds grow through.  After this a compacted filler material is laid down so as to provide a cushioning effect, which is the difference between older installations of artificial turf and modern professional ones.  This filler is going to provide a drainage aspect as well, so that water or pet urine does not pool.  On top of this the turf is rolled out and staked down, then the edges are finished off and the seams are joined.  The new artificial turf is raked and fluffed, and filler materials are sprinkled onto it in order to keep the grass blades standing up.  If done correctly, there will be little that stands out as far as not looking and feeling exactly like real grass.  There will be no need for watering and irrigation from this point, as it is not a living product and requires no maintenance.

Artificial turf is perfect for Las Vegas, and will withstand our ongoing heat without discoloring or changing.  If you are interested in an installation of artificial turf at your property, contact us today.
