When people think about water smart landscaping in areas like Las Vegas which are essentially 100% desert, many times they think that their home will be surrounded by the same types of rocks and dirt the see in the open desert as you approach the city.  This is the furthest thing from the truth, and landscape designers over the course of the last 20 years have transformed the look and feel of homes in Las Vegas into an elegant and usable presentation that also does not rely upon heavy water in the way homes on the East Coast for West Coast do.  Many areas have fallen prey to the notion that you must to landscape your yard with as many green plants and grasses as possible in order to create an environment that is both welcoming and beautiful.  The idea of having a lush green grass lawn has long been associated with luxury in established communities that are not located in the desert, and as people move to our environment they attempt to bring the same mentalities to our community.  They attempt to transform the landscape which looks unwelcome in and inhospitable into something that would be seen in areas that have far more rainfall, and ultimately to take control of their space and remake it into something that is utterly unnatural for this area.  This type of arrogant approach was probably started by the casinos many years ago who attempted to create an oasis in the desert in order to attract patrons.  The desire to theme a property in order to attract visitors became the way that we do things here, and that attitude of remaking the natural environment into something completely different bleeds over into our own private residences as well.  Luckily, we have wised up over the years and now realize that because we live in an area that does not have the natural rainfall level that can sustain its green plants, and we also need to be careful as far as the amount of water that we waste, we have set ourselves to the task of creating a beautiful and welcoming space without the typical aspects that we would find in other areas.  We have created a new form of landscaping that is water smart, which doesn’t need those wasteful plants in order to maintain an elegance and welcoming feel.

Some of the different aspects of landscape design is water smart involve things like retaining walls, decorative ground coverings and paver patios.  Pavers are one of the easiest ways to cover large areas with a stable and secure a ground covering in order to transform a space into a useable area that can be enjoyed by people and animals.  Pavers are the perfect type of ground covering for any area that is going to be a focal point in your yard, where people will congregate activities will happen.  To learn more about paver patios contact us today.
