Saving Water With Fake Grass

There are many reasons to explore the options that are available to you using artificial turf and desert landscaping, most importantly the conserving of water during drought times and the ease of maintenance that comes with landscaping elements that do not “grow” like other plants do.  While there may in fact be some elements in your desert landscaping that do grow and are alive, like cacti and other desert plants, the majority of desert landscaping and xeriscaping is about using elements that do not need water in order to create a beautiful area.  By combining elements that are natural to a dry climate like rocks along with lighting, pavers and potentially fake grass, we are able to create an environment that needs little to no water and as a result does not need the upkeep that fast-growing plants do.  One of the major aspects of desert landscaping is the removal of the grass lawn, as it is one of the most needy plants when it comes to water.  By removing the grass, you can both conserve water as well as removing the necessity to continually cut and trip the grass as it grows.  It is literally a win win situation in that you get to do your part to conserve while actually reducing your own costs and need for ongoing landscaping services.

But what if I just can’t bear to see a lawn that isn’t green?” Believe us, that question comes up a lot, especially from people who are transplants to hot areas like Las Vegas from other parts of the country.  They are just so used to seeing that lawn in the front of their home that anything else aside from the green grass doesn’t feel right.  The answer to this issue is the installation of fake grass, made from synthetic materials so that it does not grow nor need to be watered.  In the past, fake grass looked like a carpet and didn’t have that lush appearance that real lawns have.  Because of the demand over the years, the actual products that synthetic grass manufacturers produce have come so far that there is a possibility that you will not be able to notice a difference.  In addition to the quality of the grass itself, the way that it is installed makes all the difference in your artificial lawn feeling natural or not.  We do not just roll out the turf and stake it down like they used to do.  Instead, we use a specific process to clear the area, lay down a weed barrier and then a cushioning composite material that will act to give the lawn the “spongy” feel of real grass.  We install the artificial turf over that once it has been compacted and leveled just like real dirt, and stake it down so that it will stay in place.  We then add “fluffing” materials to make all the grass stand up appropriately and comb it to make it look like real, growing grass.  By the time we are done, you can have that green lawn that you desire even in the las Vegas heat.  Then you can spend more time enjoying your lawn and less time maintaining it.
