Water Smart In The Desert

Speech case you hadn’t noticed, during the winter in Las Vegas we are only allowed to water your lawn one day a week.  This is because even though we have been making progress as far as the water levels in lake mead, we are still in a severe water crisis that must be continually dealt with in order to make sure that we have enough water for all citizens at all times.  The water we have in our reservoir is our only source of life sustaining water for our general population, meaning that if it was to drop below a certain level there could be instances of death as a result.  People and animals cannot survive in the desert for very long without water, and the most impacted of all of us are the ones who do not have the means to bottled water and are reliant on the public water supply.  For these people, only the participation of all citizens and water conservation programs that are put forth by the city are going to be make sure that they have access to the water that they need in order to survive.  It is all of our responsibility to make sure that not waste water on things that are unnecessary.  Even though the city has put forth regulations that you cannot water your plants more than one day per week, it is a far better idea to participate in one of the programs that will ultimately save water over a period of many years instead of just in the current time.  The water department helps to provide rebates and other assistance in removing of the water waste in types of plants and the replacement with a more water conservation friendly type of landscape.

One of the best things that you can do to conserve water in the desert is to replace your grass with artificial turf.  The synthetic product is actually made of green plastic, and over the years has become more involved sewers to completely resemble real grass from the aspects of both look and feel.  You remove your entire living grass lawn and then prepare the area for the installation of the artificial turf product.  This is going to include smoothing the land to be the shape that is correct for your landscape and then the installation of a weed barrier and another crush products that will create a soft feel just like real grass.  When these fully installed, you will probably not be able to notice the difference between your artificial turf and real grass aside from the fact that the artificial turf looks better than any real grass lawn that you are going to see.  It is also completely maintenance free and needs no water in order to maintain this look.  So when you are ready to upgrade your life to save money on water as well as time it would be spent caring for your lawn, contact the water department to find out more information.
